What is the Difference between a Trade Fair and an Exhibition?

While most people use these terms interchangeably, the difference between a trade fair and an exhibition boils down to the event’s purpose and who can attend.

A trade fair, for instance, isn’t typically geared towards the public because it’s a B2B (business-to-business) event for companies to show products and services to other professionals in their industry. It’s also where educational demonstrations and think tanks occur, as well as interaction with media outlets and influencers.

On the other hand, an exhibition is open to the public for marketing and lead generation purposes. It’s also where several companies in an industry will unveil new, innovative products and show or demonstrate what their existing product line or services can do.
